Pre-Blog Ramblings

So these are some thoughts/ideas/memories that I've had in my head for while.  They have been rolling around in there waiting to be shared on this blog!

Because I have only just started blogging and recording 'evidence' of my teaching and learning I thought I would go back and list as best possible, the things that I've been involved in that pertain to my teaching.  So anyway here it all is.

PLEASE NOTE:  I will be adding to this page periodically as I 'recall' things that I've done!

Term 3, 2014

This was a busy term for me as I was 'acting Senior Syndicate Leader' while Roz was away on Sabbatical.  This role required me to facilitate and lead our syndicate to ensure we all met the expectations and requirements set for the term.

I really enjoyed fulfilling this role.  It was a chance to use my leadership skills and people management skills.  I enjoyed being able to assist other teachers.  I know that I have the skills, knowledge and attitude that ensure I am approachable.  Other teachers know that they can ask me for assistance/guidance etc and I am more than willing to help.  I think that I was able to quietly but effectively lead our syndicate (4 teachers + myself).  We continued to hold our weekly syndicate meetings every Thursday afternoon.  We alternated fortnightly with Ana who was leading us through the ALL programme.

I was released each Friday to carry out admin tasks to co-ordinate syndicate activities and events.  Some of the events included organising the Science Fair Catering fundraiser for our camp and organising and accompanying our Road Patrollers to the Orange Day Parade.  That day was a lot of fun!  Weekly recording of and writing/sharing of the minutes for our meetings.  Ensuring deadlines were met.  Communicating with members of our syndicate team to ensure all activities were planned and organised effectively.  I was also called upon to assist teachers with behaviour management.  Camp organisation took up a lot of time as well especially keeping up to date with camp fee payments and permissions slips/parent slips etc.  I also attend Senior Management meetings each Wednesday morning.

Some of the challenges that I faced were balancing the time I used on the release day with Syndicate Leader responsibilities as well as my own normal classroom release and ALL release time as it was all put into the one day.  I did find that I needed to make a timeframe and stick to it otherwise I often spent too much time doing Syndicate Leader stuff and not much of class/ALL stuff.

Overall I really enjoyed being in a new role.  It was challenging at times but also a period of growth and achievement. Yes I would do it all over again!

Many thanks to Norah, Roz and Ana for selecting me for this role.
